The New York City beauty salon Aisha, which was once a fixture on Instagram and now offers its own Instagram page, has been removed from the new Instagram platform.
The move comes after the Instagrammers who were previously using the Instagram page used it to promote their products, and now those products are no longer visible.
Instagram removed the account from its app on Tuesday, just days after the company unveiled a new, simpler Instagram account, which allowed users to promote products from their own account, without having to leave the app.
In a statement to the Wall Street Journal, Instagram said it had “no control over” the Instagram accounts and had not reviewed them to determine their appropriateness for the new platform.
Aisha had been the only New York beauty salon to remain on Instagram since the platform launched last year, with its users promoting their own products and other Instagram influencers, and the New York-based salon had been active since its inception in the spring of 2018.
“We are sad to announce that our brand is no longer available on Instagram,” the Instagram post read.
“Instagram is an evolving platform, and we want to ensure that it’s not used as a platform to promote personal brand or advertising.”
Instagram, which has been criticized for the way it handles and distributes information about its user base, removed the brand from its Instagram app last week.
Instagram’s new app, which is being rolled out to a broader group of users on Tuesday and Wednesday, is still available for the current group of owners.
Instagram said the Instagram brand “does not represent the values of the company” and that it “has no control over the content that Instagram users post and share on the Instagram platform.”
