Lupitas Beauty Salon has closed its doors after its owners found themselves in the spotlight for an unauthorised ‘sexist’ comment.
The business was the subject of a number of controversial comments on social media, including one which read “It’s not a beauty salon.
It’s a place where you can be judged by your body”.
Lupitas is a family-run beauty salon which has a range of services including body and face treatments, skincare, nail art, hair care, nail care products and hair products.
It was one of the most prominent businesses to close its doors, having received the support of the state government, the Queensland Government, and the Australian Fashion Week community.
Lupita owner Melissa Stirling told ABC News the business’s closure was devastating for the community.
“This is a place that is loved by so many, it’s loved by many, but it has also been a source of hurt, hurt and anger,” she said.
“We all feel like it’s just one more blow to the community we love so much.”
A spokesperson for the Queensland Health Department said: “A number of people in the community have expressed concern about Lupita and the comments made in the blog post.”
Our priority is to ensure that the community’s health is not compromised, and we are aware of the concerns.
“Lupity, a popular community forum on social networking sites, has been inundated with comments.
One reader, who wished to remain anonymous, wrote: “Lupitas is a very nice place to visit.
It was a great opportunity to meet some of the community members.
“Thank you.”””
I also had a very positive experience when I visited my parents’ place at the end of August. “
Thank you.”
